On our last trip to the California desert I had the opportunity to golf at the Marriott Desert Springs in Palm Desert long been the crown jewel in the Marriott chain. One of the most fun and scenic resort golf courses in the desert there are two 18 – hole resort style courses for vacationers and guests of the hotel.
Designed by acclaimed golf architect Ted Robinson’s who is known as ‘King of Waterscapes’ the ‘Palm’ and the ‘Valley’ courses are beautifully landscaped. But there is more than just water and landscape to these two courses.
Created to provide golfers of all ages and abilities an enjoyable round the greens are well maintained and relatively flat. The course is littered with bunkers, water hazards and strategically placed trees.
On the day that I played the golf staff placed me in a new high tech drive golf carts with state-of-the-art navigational and computing systems. The on-board GPS computer provided me with a graphic layout of each hole and computed the exact yardage to the pin and hazards.
The pro shop had Taylor made clubs for rent, so my playing partner who was flying in to the desert didn’t have to drag his clubs through the airport. If you have a swing like Charles Barkley or are simply looking for more distance, there is also a Taylor Made Performance Lab directly across from the pro shop
My partner ordered lunch as he teed off from the 18th hole and was waiting for him at Sand Trap & Wedge restaurant. I preferred, however, to wait to eat at one of the hotels Oasis Bar and Grill later that afternoon.
While the guys were spending the day on the golf course, my wife and her friends spent the day at the Spa Desert Springs.
After our day of golf and the ladies day of beauty, we cleaned up and had dinner at the Japanese styled restaurant the Mikado.
So on your next vacation to Palm Springs and the desert resort cities of Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells and La Quinta you might consider spending the day golfing at the Marriott Desert Springs.
