When you go on a beach vacation, it is very important to find a destination which is more than just a beach. If you have kids to entertain, you’ll want some extra activities. Why not vacation in Daytona Beach Florida, which has 23 miles of beach and plenty of activities.
One thing Daytona Beach is known for their Independence Day weekend celebrations, but it’s their great year round temperate climate, which makes it popular all year round. No matter what your budget is, there is different lodging choices for you. You will also enjoy spas, shopping, world-class golf, beaches, water sports, fabulous restaurants and even cultural activities.
Together with hot-dogs, hamburgers, fireworks, cotton candy and saltwater taffy, Independence Day weekend activities in Daytona Beach would not be the same without NASCAR racing. At the World Center of Racing in Daytona Beach watching the Saturday night Sprint Cup series is definitely the cherry on the cake of the weekend. This international raceway sets standards for all other raceways of its kind world-wide. Experiencing NASCAR racing at Daytona Beach has to be something you do at least once in a lifetime.
As far as beach and other activities go, there are loads of free attractions to offer during the summer months. These can save you a pocketful of money, particularly if you have a bunch of kids to entertain. Free is the best possible value for money you can get, and fortunately all the best US beaches offer these activities. One of the historical traditions of Daytona Beach is Angell & Phelps Chocolate. This factory has been operation since 1925, and you can tour this facility for free.
Culture is plentiful too at the Art League of Daytona Beach which holds regularly changed exhibitions of national and local artists. The old winter home of the Rockefellers is a must-see. This tour is also free and the “Casements” has become the museum and cultural center of Ormond Beach. Built by John D Rockefeller, this taste of Daytona Beach history takes place Monday to Friday, and Saturdays too at predetermined times.
Most US beach cities and towns have a Friends’ of the Bandshell association and Daytona Beach is no different. This organization hosts music concerts in the bandshell all summer long, and visitors are able to enjoy a free concert featuring swing, jazz, rock, country, big band and Latin concerts from May to September. A free fireworks show is featured after the concert, so make sure you either bring or rent a beach chair for the evening.
For fun on the beach a visit to the North Peninsula State Recreation Area is a must. Entrance is free and this park features 2 miles of beautiful, pristine beaches, surf fishing, sea turtles and a 900 acre park.
