Overnight Summer Camp-Spend Time With Your Child

Monday, December 6th, 2010

School is over and your child has just wanted to have a party. This is only the beginning of a long summer vacation. Be prepared.

Before the kids turn to pulling pranks on their siblings – or worse, you – you need to get them busy with activities. This is also a great opportunity to remind yourself why being a dad rocks and get out there with your kids.

Here are 4 things to do with your kids to make this a great summer!

Attend a Baseball Game Whether you take the kids to a professional game, minor league game, or even a local high school game really doesn’t matter – as just being at the ballpark with your kids is a great bonding opportunity for dads and the kids. Nothing beats a hot dog at the ballpark or teaching your kids how to crack open a peanut with their teeth and spit out the shell.

Go Fishing Grab the fishing poles and a handful of earth worms – although we always used hot dogs for bait when I was a kid – and head down to a nearby pond or river. While it is fun to get out in a boat, you can have just as much fun standing on the shore casting out into the water. It helps to have a tackle box with a few essentials, such as pliers, lures, etc. but don’t let the lack of these items prevent you from getting out there. If you plan to fish yourself, be careful as you may require a fishing license for your area and don’t want to get fined for breaking the law.

Have A Treasure Hunt Whether you break out the metal detector to look for buried treasure or just make up a treasure list like when you were a kid at a sleep over, you will have fun exploring. Part of the excitement with a treasure hunt is just imagining the possibilities. Maybe you will find some long-lost artifact that would make Indiana Jones proud – or maybe you will just find a dime that has been buried for years. Most kids will be just as happy either way.

Parents often do not have the time or energy to keep up with your kid so consider an Summer Youth Camp this summer for your child.

4 Budget Friendly Ideas for Holiday Shopping

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

This Christmas families are looking for simple ways to save money on Christmas Presents. This can be vital with many families experiencing strained finances. The goal is to still have a great Christmas but be able to do it on a reduced budget. This may seem challenging but there are many options that can help you have a great Christmas and still not strain your pocketbook. Here are some great suggestions that you can use this holiday season.

The first thing to do is to look at your budget and see if there is any extra money that you can put towards your holiday expenses. You should also look to see if there are any small things that you can do to earn some extra cash for presents. Even with less than two months left before Christmas don’t underestimate the power of saving. Every little bit counts and can make a surprising difference when you start your holiday shopping.

Try to buy not just for this Christmas but for the next one. The big problem with many shoppers is that we often shop in the moment. We see it, we want it now regardless of whether it is a worthwhile purchase or not. If you want to make great money saving purchases you have to have a long term view. It might mean that you may not choose the most expensive item when you do your holiday shopping for this Christmas. You may wait until the after holiday sales where you can get much better savings and keep that gift for next Christmas. Actions like this will multiply the effectiveness of your spending.

Start hunting for coupon and keep an eye out for sales. The name of the game is savings when you do your holiday shopping. Look in store publications and newspapers for the dates and times for big sales this year. Also look for coupons that can add additional savings to your purchases. The new innovation this year is the internet. You can now not only do shopping online, but also find coupons that present major saving. Simply doing a Google search or posting a question on ask.com or askville.com will help you find important information that will lead you to awesome discounts.

Take advantage of clearance sales for other seasons to find great and inexpensive gifts this holiday season. For example my sister often babysits for extra money. She likes to purchase toys that will help make her job easier by giving the kids something new and interesting to play with. As a college student she doesn’t make much but she knows how to take advantage of bargains. One of her charges loves Hannah Montana. So my sister saw a pop star set and a Hannah Montana Halloween costume on sale for mere dollars on clearance. She was able to get a gift on the cheap that when she gives it to the little girl she babysits will send her over the moon.

Something simple and inexpensive that you can do for your kids is to have them receive a letter from Santa. It is quite affordable and you can give your kids something that looks like it is from Santa and seems quite authentic. This will help make Christmas magical for your kids without spending a lot.

Create magic in your child’s eyes with our letters from Santa . EZSantaLetters.com offers fully personalized Santa letters and 15 pre-written Santa Letters . All letters are postmarked from the North Pole and will definitely put a smile on your child’s face.

Home Schooling Information.

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Home schooling or homeschooling, if you want (in deed, you even see it hyphenated, as in home-schooling) has been popular for about 30 years now, although, of course it was all people had before state intervention in education. Out of the way rural places in large countries like the USA, Canada and Australia still have to rely on home schooling to a great extent, although it is less difficult now with the wide-spread use of radio, television and the Internet. Video packages also play an essential role, as do books still.

Nevertheless, home schooling has become very popular in the cities as an alternative to inner city public schools, which are frequently seen as hotbeds of upheaval, anger and narcotics, especially by the middle classes and not without some valid cause, to be fair. However, there are also other valid reasons for choosing home schooling, which we will go into later.

First, it must be pointed out that the decision to go for home schooling has to be a family one. This is because it will turn “normal family life” on its head and place an added monetary strain on the family purse. For instance, one parent will have to cease working. This cannot be allowed to be a cause of resentment, or both parents could take part-time employment and share the children’s educational time. Whichever way you decide, you will not have two full-time incomes any longer. Working from home on the Internet could be a partial solution here.

Home schooling will also disrupt everyone’s social life. So, the parents’ social life is restricted by not seeing work colleagues every day, but so is little Johnny’s, particularly if he has already spent some time in a normal classroom. He won’t see his pals from class as much and they may drift away from him or even be angry with him.

On the positive side is that the family will become a lot stronger as a unit by working together at home schooling. Both parents will have a thorough understanding of what their child is learning and will be learning. While following a broad-spectrum education, you may nevertheless opt to focus on points of, say, history or science, that particularly interest your child. It allows you the freedom to tailor your child’s education to his or her particular interests, something that state education cannot do well with over-sized classes. Your child will also come less under the influence of the rowdier elements in school and be able to concentrate more on studying.

A note of caution could be useful at this point. Do not be tempted to compel your child to progress too rapidly. It is tempting for a non-professional teacher-cum-proud parent in home schooling to push the child much harder than he can go. Don’t forget that most pupils are just average. You must be on look out for signs of burn-out and stress at all times.

Once you decide to opt for home schooling, you will need to pick a basic programme, go through it yourself to familiarize yourself with it, buy or find in the library any supplementary books, videos and software, make a load of notes and stock up on pens and paper, folders, binders and filing cabinets and you’ll be ready for your first term at home schooling.

A Disney World Orlando Vacation May Be a Wonderful Happening for You and The Youngsters

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Are you ready to take some time off, pack up the kids and head to Disney World?

It’s always desirable to do special things for your children and there is nothing rare about this. As parents, we all wish to afford the best education and lifestyle possible to make our kids happy and content.

A child gets the largest part of their learning and habits from things that transpire outside the classroom. One of the ways our kids grow up to be well-rounded attractive people is by means of spending time and interacting with friends, family, clergy and with us as parents provided we allocate some genuine and true quality time with them.

And not surprisingly, there is a good deal to be learned as they take part in a mixture of organizations in our communities and neighborhoods. This inevitably embeds a strong feeling and appreciation for interacting with others.

In the summer, it’s always wonderful to take camping trips with the kids. Or better yet, how about a trip to Disney World Orlando. A trip to Disney World is very much on every kids wish list at some time in their childhood.

One thing you notice at Disney World is lots of people pushing around strollers with kids too small to go on some of the rides clinging tightly to the parents. It’s a little weird in view of the fact that the kids are too young to really remember the trip. The only way they may really ever experience the trip is through photographs or video that you may take while on the trip.

And of course, the parents end up having to put up with distressed and disgruntled kids all day making for a dreadfully lousy experience for the whole family. So the bottom line here is, before preparing for that Disney World vacation, make certain to wait until the kids are old enough to enjoy the various rides that have height restrictions as well as to be able to fully enjoy, remember and appreciate the trip.

There’s a ton of things to do on these Disney vacation trips, so plan well so you are not hurrying through the many theme parks. It’s preferable to put aside a little extra money and to plan a longer trip so you don’t feel hurried or short on cash.

You might easily spend several days in any one park so be ready to take your time and enjoy yourself. With enough planning you and the family will have an absolutely wonderful time with your Disney World trip.

But be forewarned. Don’t be surprised if both you and the rest of the family enjoy the trip so much that you begin talking about coming back as you are returning home. It’s that good!

Filled with all its natural beauty. In the sky you can see eagles all around swooping down to catch a fish in a nearby lake or stream. Charter into new waters this summer. For many kids, coming to camp is a big adventure! One of the biggest challenges is swimming in a lake. We all have had experience swimming in a nice blue pool. There is security in being able to see the bottom of the pool. Lake swimming is to enter the wild water and to cross a border. You pass the lake?s edge and you break the surface of the water itself. In doing so, you move from one realm into another: a new realm of freedom, adventure, magic and occasional danger. Watch out for those Turtles and Fish! Swimming in open water is a new experience that’s not to be feared, but embraced. Once you feel comfortable swimming in a lake, the world will open up to you and wherever you see water you will see a new adventure waiting. Swift Nature Camp Summer Camphas over 1500 acres of water right out your cabin front door. At Swift Nature Camp we have a wonderful swimming area full of fun toys, not to mention Wally (the water trampoline) & Sally (the slide). “Free Swim” is one of the most anticipated times of the camp day, but “Instructional Swim” is there to help give you build the confidence for those free swims. You can even earn American Red Cross Swimming levels

Catching frogs from camps own beaver pond is a huge camp sport at Swift Nature Camp. it is a challenge too. The big Bull Frogs put up a big battle to free them selves. We even have a favorite bull from the biggest meanest frog of them all JIMBO. Yes he is our mascot and is pictured on this page. Catching frogs is one of favorite things to do at this children’s summer camp. One of the best hunting spots is the lamp poles at night. You see the frogs come up from the pond at night looking for food and all the bugs hanging around the light will do just fine. One might wonder are you eating all these favorite catches. Nope they gan spend on night up at the Nature Center Zoo where they hang with the other animals anc catches then its back to where they were caught at. Next summer, join us for some serious frog catching.

We at Swift Nature Camp believe that your child’s safety is the most important part of camp. That is why we have a strict Lifejacket rule. Everyone must wear a PDF when in a boat. No exceptions, staff and campers alike. THis is true if on a river canoe trip or on on our own camp lake. Water is so much fun and kids love it but it is dangerous and we must be prepared. We even have a special “titanic test” to ensure that our lifejacket fits nice and snug in case of an emergency. Campers learn this the first day of camp.
